Prenatal Bodywork
holistic prenatal care
Prenatal care with Mountain View Midwives includes opportunities in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters for integrated bodywork therapies that can enhance vitality in pregnancy, improve common discomforts, and ease restrictions to support an easier labor and birth. These services are included in the Global Midwifery Care fee and offered by all of the midwives as part of your routine prenatal visit as needed or by request.
Maya Abdominal Therapy
The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy are founded on
ancient Mayan healing practices. The therapeutic session involves external non invasive
touch that gently repositions internal organs that have shifted, thereby restricting the flow of
blood, lymph, nerve and chi. You can learn more about the technique and the benefits at
Arvigo Therapy. Prenatal and postpartum benefits include strengthening and toning of
the uterus, release of restrictions in the ligaments that align the uterus in the pelvis which can lead to easier childbirth, and restoring
pelvic tone after delivery.
CranioSacral Therapy
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. It was pioneered and developed by Osteopathic Physician John E. Upledger after years of clinical testing and research at Michigan State University where he served as professor of biomechanics.
Using a soft touch which is generally no greater than 5 grams – about the weight of a nickel – practitioners release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system. CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and it's effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction. Prenatal and postpartum benefits include increased energy, deeper relaxation and ease of breathing, release of muscle tension and restriction, and an overall sense of connection to your pregnant body and your baby.
You can learn more about this technique from The Upledger Institute and The Biodynamic Craniosacral Association of North America.
